RIP Jade 1996-2006

Jade didn’t make it.

Wednesday night Amy and I said goodbye to her, then watched as she peacefully left us. On our way out, we saw a mom with eight new kittkens. The circle of life continues. In the parking lot, I cried like a baby on Amy’s shoulder. We went to McCoy’s for a burger, a beer, and dessert as memeories of Jade filled my mind.

My house is way too quiet at night (no cats chasing each other around).

I still put out food and water every morning (for Tiki- Mark’s cat). It’s part of my routine.

In the morning Jade isn’t there to greet me as I wake up and get ready for work.

Tiki is starting to realize Jade is never coming home.

Death is a part of life. Loss is a part of love.

Rest in peace sweet Jade. You were loved.

Welcome to my bittersweet life

Right on the heels of my proposal to Amy…

My cat is very sick. The Easter Lily I bought Amy for the proposal has poisoned my cat. She ate some leaves during the 2 hour time period it was in my house. I never have plants in the house so I didn’t think anything of it… until Jade didn’t show on Tuesday morning… and then I thought it was related to a different problem she was just getting over. Besides she was going to vet all day on Wednesday, they’d figure out what was up.

Right now, she’s at the vet recieving fluids to try to pull her out of it, but according to this article, there’s little hope. Jade was exposed 4 days ago… and ate a good amount of foliage.

My vet has been very encouraging, but short of a miracle, I fear I’ll be giving the OK to put her to sleep in just a few hours…

The last two weeks have been an absolute rollercoaster for me. From the highs to lows and everywhere in between. It’s hard to discern in the midst of all this what God is doing… but I must trust that it will all be used for good and His glory.

My pastor John responded to the news with this:

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful:
The Lord God made them all.
Ò€”All Things Bright and Beautiful, a hymn by Cecil Alexander.

Unto Jade, Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy; Lord have mercy. Bring your healing. Amen.

The easter lily is a sign of the new life we find in Christ… and our (Amy and I) new life together.

Lord, let it be also be a sign of the new life you will give to Jade.

A Proposal

Do you trust me?

She said YES! πŸ™‚

Dune Buggy

Dune Buggy

Originally uploaded by Nick Ciske.

Yup, I drove a dune buggy in Puerto Vallarta. This pic was taken by one of the guides.

I did pretty well, considering I hadn’t driven a stick in 10 years, much less a bare bones 4 speed with a clutch held to the frame with a handkerchief.

I killed it twice- once because I thought I was in neutral… and once because my foot kept slipping off the clutch after we went through the river. The handkerchief knot released and the clutch was pinned to the floor. After the clutch was fixed (retied) the accelerator got stuck wide open when I was starting it. Luckily I was in neutral that time!

Other than that, it was a fairly uneventful drive…

One of the guides bought the $10 watch I got on the boat…

I almost got rear ended at the bottom of a ravine…

My mouth was so dry I could barely breathe (motion sickness patch side effect + dusty backroads)…

My eyes were coated with a layer of dust, grit, and sand… so that it was hard to see at times…

I almost hit a large rock coming out of the river…

I drove by a cow… who I would have hit had it been in the road (it was right after a sharp corner)…

I didn’t realize there was a seatbelt until halfway through the ride…

Like I said, pretty uneventful πŸ˜‰

A Million Voices for Darfur

A Million Voices for Darfur

After reflecting on the genocide in Rwanda, Senator Paul Simon said: “If every member of the House and Senate had received 100 letters from people back home saying we have to do something about Rwanda, when the crisis was first developing, then I think the response would have been different.”

That’s a powerful statement. It means that we had the power to stop the genocide in Rwanda, but that too many of us chose not to act. It also means that we have the power now to stop the genocide in Darfur if we do choose to act.

The Save Darfur Coalition and nearly 100 organizations are trying to gather 1 million signatures on postcards. These postcards and their messages will be sent to President Bush, urging him to take action. After you’re done signing, you will have the opportunity to spread the word to your friends. Gathering 1 million signatures is as simple as you passing the alert to 10 people, who each send to 10 people, and so on.

Since the beginning of the conflict in Darfur, an estimated 400,000 people have been killed and more than 2 million people have been displaced. The world has watched silently. Paul Rusesabagina, whose life and experience with the 1994 genocide in Rwanda was portrayed in the movie “Hotel Rwanda,” put it this way: “A detachment of well-equipped peacekeepers, made up of less than *one-twentieth* of the American troops now stationed in Iraq, could have easily stopped the killings without risk” (emphasis added). In short, we are asking President Bush to give real meaning to the words, “Never Again.”

Thank you for using your voice. I truly believe that with God’s grace working in and through us, we can end this genocide.

Apple comes through with BootCamp

This is awesome — I can dual boot my MacBook!

That means I can get rid of all my PC’s and just use my MacBook.

Sure it’s just a BETA, but it looks like it will do the job.

Now I just need to get a Windows XP Pro SP2 install disk… hmmm…

Ah… NewEgg, how I love thee: Microsoft Windows XP Professional With SP2

UPDATE: Apple shares are up 8% thanks to this news!

UPDATE: XP Pro arrives today, I’m going to do the install tonight! I’d post pictures, but many others already have. Ok, maybe 1 picture πŸ˜‰
