Do No Harm

From “The Blood of Eden” by Peter Gabriel:

Is that a dagger or a crucifix I see
You hold so tightly in your hand

Sometimes I think we as Christians should take something akin to the Hippocratic Oath to “Above All, Do No Harm” before venturing out to do ministry.

How many bruised, battered and bleeding have we left behind in our rush to ‘build the Kingdom’ by leaps and bounds instead of one soul at a time?

I know too well the feeling of the dagger in my hand and the blood drawn by my callous words and bitter heart.

And, thankfully, I know all too well the sweet mercy of a loving Savior, whom I’ve abused the most and who yet still loves me.

The Blood of Eden runs through my veins, but I have been washed in the blood of the Lamb. Hallelujah.
